With this „Pacific-Water-Action", I wanted to establish a symbolic connection to the other side of the earth. It’s a small world, after all. A round earth. This small amount of water directly comes from the other side of the globe.
Very interesting was the customs officials’ reaction in Hanover, where I picked up the water. The water had been transported in four 20-liter canisters, which also contained several stones or shells that made some noise when the container was joggled. The officials probably didn’t want to believe that only water was contained within anyway. As a result, they told me to decant the water into different containers, so that they could see what was contained within. This I had to do, while the customs officials were watching. To their astonishment, they had to find out that it was indeed just water, exactly 80 liters of Pacific water, sand included, directly from the Los Angeles beach. |
